1. Information We Collect

1.1 Images You Upload

When you upload a JPEG, JPG, or PNG file to our compression tool, the image is temporarily stored on our encrypted server only for the duration required to process and return your compressed file.

1.2 Automatically Collected Data

Like most websites, we collect minimal anonymous technical information when you visit TheCompressJPEG: IP address (anonymized after 24 hours), browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit. This data is used solely for security, abuse prevention, and improving site performance.

1.3 Cookies

We use a small number of cookies: a session cookie to remember your preferences during a visit, and a Google Translate cookie if you choose to translate the site into another language. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

We do not use your images or personal data for advertising, machine learning training, or any commercial purpose beyond providing the compression service you requested.

3. Data Retention & Deletion

All uploaded images and their compressed versions are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers within 60 minutes of upload. There is no manual review, no archiving, and no backup of user files. Once deleted, files cannot be recovered.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise share your personal data or uploaded images with any third party. The only exceptions are when required by valid legal process such as a court order or subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TheCompressJPEG, our users, or the public.

5. Third-Party Services

TheCompressJPEG uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the website: Google Fonts for typography, Google Translate for language translation (only when activated by you), and a hosting provider for server infrastructure. Each of these providers operates under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.

6. Children's Privacy

TheCompressJPEG is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction — including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), and similar US state laws, plus GDPR for EU visitors, you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you, request correction or deletion of your data, object to or restrict processing, request data portability, and lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data: HTTPS encryption for all uploads and downloads, secure server infrastructure, regular security audits, and strict access controls.
